After teaching for 15 years, I always wonder about the teenagers I am working with. Where are they really coming from? They have changed so much from when I was in school 20 years ago. The world is such a big place, and these teenagers are stuck in between childhood and adulthood, trying to find their way. So many get lost... just like Julia Garcia did. Julia's words struck home and will always be in the back of my mind as I continue to work with teenagers. Julia opened her world, as tragic and difficult as it was, to help others. She may have been somewhere in between, but in the end, she found passion and purpose, the very things I want my students to find. I hope this books finds its way into many teachers' hands because we have to know what teenagers face in order to truly help them find their way. Somewhere In Between is a must read for teachers in today's high school classroom!

This book is an amazing journey through the life of a young lady who turned her life turmoil and tragedies into triumph and success. Her stories are a real account of many young women's lives. A beautiful book to teach young people that they are not alone. Showing that negative can be turned -- a matter of changing your perception of life's paths; looking forward, keeping the past as a learning tool rather than a weight to keep you down. Somewhere In Between is a powerfully, and Courageously Vulnerable look back on one girls life. As a guy, this book has served as a mirror for me to look deep inside my past and the motives that backed my actions while growing up. Julia's writing has a way of reminding the reader, or awakening the reader of the importance of self awareness, and personal accountability. I am still processing all that I have learned, and know that this is one of those books that continues to reveal its magic and teachings throughout years to come.

Julia Garcia has a fearless ability to dive into the darkness, that most of us spend our whole lives running from. She serves as an inspiration to anyone that is looking to pick their head up, and start choosing how they want their life to go, rather then being a slave to "our story". She reminds us that it isn't easy, but we are all strong enough; regardless of what we are going through, or where we have been, we can pick ourselves up and LIVE our lives.
